World War II

He was 17            lied about his age                     joined the army           shipped out to

the South Pacific          was so scared         unsure           did not know what to do

climbed over a rise            saw another young                        Japanese soldier

The other solider could have killed him

They looked at each other with large eyes full of fear

The other soldier dropped his sword

The American boy picked it up                  looked around         ran back down the rise

fearful

but thankful he was

alive

The sword was left to my eldest son. This is a true story from my grandfather (Dat) who raised me.

“War is Ugly and Worse than you can Imagine”………Tom Sanner….original quote
