Comment and 14th amendment…

I really do not like writing about politics. However, have been interested in politics since I was a teen so I guess I am safe…It does open one up to scrutiny and that is the part I don’t like. However, I received a comment about the 14th amendment in response to a post I was writing about the LGBT community in Florida.

For those of you wanting more information about the 14th amendment, and don’t have a copy of the Constitution, the above link will give more information. There has been much debate about the 14th amendment in our political process.

————————The 14th amendment was also written for it’s time and is left to interpretation by the Supreme Court for issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with what was happening in the country 200 years ago….therein lies the problem, but still…

My opinion:  The government has such Big Problems to deal with, I feel that the subject of gay marriage should be given back to the states. However, I do believe that all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation, should have the same rights as everyone else has under the Constitution.

Gay marriage is not the only issue I feel should be given back to the states. I have a list of things. This is why:  The government is too Big. They Waste Too Much Money. They Take Forever arguing. There are many issues that can get beyond government control by giving it back to the states. I won’t list them all here, but feel that the government should be focusing on keeping us safe, running the country, taking care of us in the global economy, and taking care of it’s people. The States are smart enough to deal with many issues that the government likes to stick its’ nose in.

My personal experience with gay marriage:

I have an aunt who was married to a man for many years. They had three sons and seemed very happy. She found out he was cheating on her with another woman and he eventually left her for that woman. She was drowning in sorrow. She became friends with a lady and I found out when I was 17 that she was more than friends with this lady. Not quite forty years passed. Today they are in their 70’s.

My Aunts have been together exclusively all this time. Once I recovered from my Ignorance and Fear and I began to practice Education, Tolerance, and Love through my Christian faith towards gay and lesbian folks, I had a talk with them.

My Aunts: Have you ever had a best girlfriend that you loved?

Me:  Of course.

My Aunts:  No, we mean Really love?

Me:  Of course.

My Aunts:  The kind of love that would take you to the other side of the world if they needed you?

Me: Of course.

My Aunts: Did you share secrets together, tell stories, laugh, cry, celebrate, share your love and your life?

Me:  Of course!

My Aunts: It’s the same with us, except there was a sexual component to it.

Me: Oh….

My Aunts:  Can you understand where we are coming from?

Me: In the sense of the friendship and love, yes but not the other stuff….

My Aunts: My darling, sex is overrated, don’t you think from your prospective as a heterosexual?

Me: You betcha.

My Aunts:  Do you still love us, enjoy us, want to spend time with us?

Me: Of course! I love you guys!!

—-This conversation began my education about the LGTB community. Love and no judgement.

They never got married. However, they have spent a lifetime together. My ‘new Aunt’ has more sense than the rest of that side of the family combined. She is a peacemaker, very loving and very wise. She takes better care of my aunt in every way than her husband ever did.

I leave the rest to God.

How about a solution?

I am not formally educated but have sure been trying to obtain my degree for the past few years. However, here are a few solutions to the problem of terrorists in this country….

If one is on a ‘watch list’ and there is no evidence to ‘do anything’ until a crime is committed, how about keeping them on a ‘watch list’. If there is Anything that comes up for example, purchasing a weapon, ordering materials to make bombs, their terrorist connections, flights out of the country, or Anything At All suspicious, PICK THEM UP and MONITOR THEM CAREFULLY. How to do this?  Just pass another law, and quickly.

Think of all of the dumb laws that are on ‘the books’ (look it up) there are hundreds that don’t make sense. Pass another law and then it’s okay to intervene if one is associated with terrorist behavior. Easy.

I’m not even smart and I can sit here and think of that in less than ten minutes.

DON’T BLAME THE GUNS.  We have a Constitutional Right to Bear Arms. However, PASS ANOTHER LAW FAST. Put more safeguards in place by Passing A Law. More background checks, more investigations for assault weapon purchase. Make it harder. Those of us that bear arms won’t mind. We would rather be safe. We would rather our children be safe. We Respect Guns and the way we use them. We are responsible. Normal people who bear arms, even if we own assault weapons Don’t Go Out and Kill Innocent People.

This is an easy one:  Don’t like the LGBT community? How about just Shut Up and Mind Your Own Business. Learn tolerance and Love. Educate yourself. People are People. Easy. Surely being gay or lesbian does not give one a right to Kill Them or Anyone Else. Give it to God and move on.

Intelligence community doesn’t have Enough People?  Cut some government waste and hire more people to monitor those that have terrorist ties. Government can’t afford it? Put out a call for Volunteers to do it for crying out loud. I bet retired law enforcement and military would gladly donate a little time to Monitor these people. Easy.

That’s several solutions from an uneducated Old Lady in less than fifteen minutes.

Wake up Legislators!  Make it happen!  End the Madness!

any one of us could be next…..

Florida update….and questions?

I have been upset most of the day over the Florida shootings this early morning and I am afraid for the future. It has come out in the news that the young man was Muslim and did not like the LGBT community.

While watching the news today, (nursing another sore tooth of course), I was confused about something Senator Rubio said. He said something like that the Muslim leaders need to condemn radical Islamic actions but that it would be hard to do it.  My question is why is this hard for the Muslim leaders to condemn acts of terror?  I understand that the Muslim faith is against homosexuality, as is the Christian faith. However, if all of the Muslim leaders in every place of worship through out the country condemned this kind of behavior, why is that hard to do?  If in their daily prayers and services they continued to condemn radical terrorism?  Would it hurt to do that? I think not..If any faith does Not condemn this type of behavior, I think it’s horrible. The behavior is horrible. It seems simple to me. Killing is Wrong.

Furthermore, if any faith or person of No Faith doesn’t like the United States, nor the people who live here, whether they are straight or gay or lesbian or drunk or sober, have faith or don’t have faith, Why Live Here???  Side note: I am NOT picking on Muslims. I know many and have found them to be upright and peace loving. I happen to be a Christian, but I certainly don’t sanction the Crusades, killing people because they did not believe in Christ or any of the times in history when people were Killed for not believing in Christ. That’s just as bad.

If I lived in a country that I Hated, couldn’t stand the Law, nor the Rights that people have under their Constitution, such as being treated Equal, having the right To Bear Arms, etc., etc.,…I would Go Home or Someplace Else. I wouldn’t Kill Them. Outrageous!!

Another question I have is why in the world wasn’t this person monitored by Someone, he was on the ‘radar’ of the FBI. I don’t buy it that there wasn’t enough evidence, nor resources to monitor everyone who may be a radical Islamist or any other terrorist…Hire more people for crying out loud, we need Jobs Anyway…I realize that under the Law there may be nothing to be done until a Crime is committed, but surely there must be some kind of Exception if one is associated with terrorists??

And as far as the politicians and talking heads saying that there is nothing more that they can do, that people should not live in fear, that they can’t do anything until a crime is committed, that guns should be banned,…..Please Shut Up. There has to be a Solution. With all of the great minds in this country, Someone Should Come Up with Something.

Why was this man allowed to purchase a firearm? Of course he could have gotten his hands on an assault weapon on the black market, but shouldn’t it be harder to purchase, especially if one was investigated by the FBI for possible terrorist connections? Shouldn’t that be on record Somewhere and accessible to whomever is selling them?

I do believe in the right to bear arms and have been around guns all my life, and am a proud Carrier. However, I really could care less if there was a ban on assault weapons being sold. But let’s get real:  he could have gotten one or a bomb or whatever else he may have wanted to buy in order to carry out his mission. I just think that there should be more background checks, more thorough investigations done for those wanting to purchase these kinds of weapons. Home protection, self protection, hunting….none of them require assault weapons. I like them anyway because I like just about any kind of gun. However,  I would not mind a few more days to purchase one if it meant a safeguard that may prevent one of these weapons getting into the hands of the wrong person.

As far as the gay, lesbian community, if someone does not like it, or specifically a person who is gay or lesbian, it’s not necessary to KILL people. Leave it to God and move on. Tolerance and Love people. Good grief…

I can’t stand the horror of it all and I don’t think it will be the last attack.  It makes no sense to me..It isn’t logical. It’s Awful. I feel so sad for the loved ones left behind, the people fighting for their lives in the hospital, those that were injured, those that are still alive and the remorse and Fear and Anxiety and Void that will surely scar them and their families. I feel sad for the young man’s family too. It’s so hard to imagine….I feel awful for the entire Orlando community, the neighboring cities, the country in general….What about the police  and the crime techs who worked the scene, the doctors and nurses, the turmoil, the chaos?  What must They be going through?

And what about the festival in California? Can you imagine if that guy with the bomb was not reported to the police? Good grief that would have been more killing….all those lives lost…

Not that age matters but most of the lost were so young…..barely able to live and love and hope and dream….the tears of their families and friends…..

So many people in Sorrow and Fear in one day….

—–and for the record, this has really got Anxiety standing up and clapping, smiling and creating havoc in my tummy so thanks for that too!!

No more gay bashing!!

Continuing on my Tirade today about the shootings in Florida, I thought I may as well add another post about the LGBT community. You know, I could have been in that bar too. I have friends of my own, as well as relatives who are part of that community. I have been invited out before in life to a ‘gay bar’ and have went with my relatives or friends because they are gay. Pretty racy for an old lady like me to say, right? But it’s true. I have. Go out for a drink, or dinner, or snack, to a place that is known as ‘gay’?  Yes, I have gone.  I even hit the dance floor!!  Who cares?  I could have been shot!!  Why did I go if I am not gay?

Because I love my relatives and friends that are gay or lesbian, that’s why. I don’t shun them any longer, although I did when I was young and Ignorant because of Fear. I love being with them, they are funny and loving and caring and wonderful. Why wouldn’t I go with them? Anyway, the point is that people have to stop targeting others because of their Color, Race, Religion, Sexual Preference, etc. with HATE. If not, our society will tear apart. Very simple. Love, Tolerance, Prayer, No Fear.

And for any parents of children are of the LGBT community, please don’t shun your child. I know so many young people that are suffering because their parents have turned against them. They are still your child. They need you. They love you.  If they cut their hair and dyed it an ugly color would you hate them? If they decided to become a member of a different political party would you hate them? Yes, yes, I know all about having Great Expectations for your children. I did and do. However, they are Free to Choose whatever they want to do once past the age of 18. Quit shunning and hating and give it to God.

So simple.
